How To Return E-books Early
Returning e-books early allows you to check out additional items more quickly and helps others who may be waiting in line for books. All books in the Wichita E-Reads catalog, except for Disney Online Books, may be returned early using the steps below.
Returning early through Adobe Digital Editions
(non-Kindle e-readers)
You may return e-books early through Adobe Digital Editions software. An e-book must be downloaded before you can return it.
- Open Adobe Digital Editions.
- Select the "Library View" icon (in the upper left corner). The Adobe Digital Editions library is displayed.
- Under the "Bookshelves" heading, select "Borrowed."
- Select the e-book you want to return.
- Click the "Item Options" arrow (in the upper left corner of the selected e-book).
- Select "Return Borrowed Item."
- Click "Return" to confirm that you want to return the title.
Returning early for Kindle users
Kindle users need to access their Amazon accounts to return e-books early.
- On your computer, go to www.amazon.com, and click on "Your Digital Items."
- Click on "Manage Your Kindle."
- Sign into your account (if necessary).
- Select the "Actions" drop-down menu next to the book you want to return. The words "public library" will appear next to any library e-books.
- From the menu, select "Return this book." Avoid "Delete from library," as this will delete the book from your Kindle Library, but will not return it!
- You will be prompted to confirm your choice. Click "yes" to return the book. Please wait for the screen to refresh automatically: this can take a few seconds.
- After you have returned the book, it will still display in your Kindle Library. To remove it from the list, select Actions again and, from the drop-down menu, select "Delete from library." ("Return to library" will no longer be an option once it has been successfully returned.)
Returning early using OverDrive Media Console
for iPhone/iPad v2.3 (or newer)
To return e-books from the "Library" screen:

Swipe across the e-book you want to delete. A "Delete" button is displayed next to the title.

Tap "Delete" to display the return options.

Tap "Return and Delete." The e-book is returned and deleted.
Returning early using OverDrive Media Console
for Android v2.3 (or newer)
To return e-books from the "Library" screen:

Tap and hold the e-book you want to return. The title menu is displayed.

Tap "Delete" to display the return options.

Tap "Return and Delete." The e-book is returned and deleted.
