National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Challenge
In 2003, The Wichita Public Library Foundation completed a $2,000,000 endowment through the National Endowment for the Humanities challenge grant program. The $500,000 challenge grant from the NEH was matched with $1,500,000 from the local community.
Income from the NEH endowment is used to expand humanities collections and literature collections in regular print, large print, and audio formats. NEH funds underwrite expenses for many Library programs. The Campaign for Books General Endowment also helps to update reference collections, maintain public access computer workstations, and to purchase additional books on compact disc to keep up with increasing customer demand.
